The earthquake destroyed almost all of the 2005 harvest in the Allai valley. Although, only a quarter of the population relies solely on agriculture for income generation, subsistence agriculture is part of nearly every household.

To kick start income generation activities in the region, CARE provided seeds distribution to farming households in the valley consisting of around 70,000 people inhabiting over 200 villages. CARE procured maize and rice seeds and fertilizers for farmers and distributed them to farmers in March-April 2006 in time for the spring planting season. Tools and fertilizers were also distributed. Nearly 7,000 sets were distributed to local farmers along with 14,000 Kilograms of fertilizer.

Around 18,000 fruit trees were also provided to farmers in Allai.
